Justin Townes Earle, Brown Bird at The Iron Horse
With Justin Townes Earle’s pedigree come mixed blessings. As the son of legendary singer/songwriter Steve Earle, high expectations are the name of the game. But within the first song on his second album Midnight At the Movies, you know you’re hearing something special, that you are party to the unknown and exhilarating paths being explored by an artist on the creative ascendancy. Since the release of The Good Life in early 2008, Earle has played the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fest, Chicago Country Music Festival, Americana Music Awards, Down Home in Norway and his debut on the Grand Ole Opry. Features on NPR’s Morning Edition, Mountain Stage and World Café caught the ears of millions of listeners and admiring ink ran in the New York Times, LA Times, Nashville Scene, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, American Songwriter and No Depression. The Good Life debuted on the Billboard Country Chart first week, no small feat for a new artist.

Johnny A. performs at Iron Horse Music Hall
Johnny A. has one of the most eloquent voices in modern music - and he doesn't sing a note. Instead, he channels joy, love, humor, sadness... every aspect of the human experience, through his guitar. He is widely regarded as one of America's finest contemporary guitarists. Gibson thinks so – their Custom Shop designed a Signature Edition guitar per his specific requests which, when it was marketed in 2003, placed him in an exclusive club that included legends like BB King, Wes Montgomery, Chet Atkins, Joe Perry, Pat Martino and Les Paul himself. www.JohnnyA.com Saturday, July 31st - 7:00pm Iron Horse Music Hall 20 Center Street Northampton, MA Tickets: $15 Adv / $18 Door www.iheg.com

The First Annual EatUp! Pig Roast (vegetarians and non-pork eaters welcome!)
Greetings, one and all! We have worked out the details of our First Annual Pig Roast and I think we have something delicious for EVERYONE! Vegetarians, Vegans, and non-pork fans alike will be going home totally satisfied. And guess what? Rob Daviau, one of our very own members, will be coordinating ALL the side dishes and the roasting of the pork. The group leaders had an AMAZING lovingly prepared 5 course dinner at Rob's house the other night and I tell you, even just his side dishes would be worth it, it was honestly one the best meals I have had in DECADES. I believe the others would agree! So...we're going to do it a bit differently this time, in that there will be different prices for different people's needs. $25 per person for those who will be having meat (pork, chicken or beef) $15 per person for those who prefer a vegetarian meal. When you sign up, you will be asked to declare if you prefer chicken, beef or vegetarian. If you will be having the roast pork, feel free to skip that question. The event will be at Jessica's house in Conway, MA, which is about 6 miles off the Deerfield exit of 91. (#24 from the South). Detailed directions will be emailed to those who RSVP yes. Here is a rough draft of the menu, but it may change a bit, according to the ingredients we can find and the cost of the items, but this is a general idea: (V is for vegetarian) Main Course: (1 choice) Roast Pork (of course) BBQ chicken BBQ beef Pasta with roasted cherry tomatoes, herbs, and mascarpone cheese sauce for the vegetarians as a main course, and as a side dish for everyone else. Side dishes: rolls/bread from a local bakery (V) Indian-spiced fresh-corn hush puppies with mint yogurt sauce (V) Smoked sweet potato/brown sugar/banana mash. (V) Fava Bean salad with Tarragon (V) Mixed beet and cabbage slaw (V) Dessert: To be determined Beverages: BYOB So, please RSVP before July 15th as we need to order the roast! We are all very much looking forward to this fun and relaxing way to enjoy a delicious meal and our own company in an informal way! We would love to have music at the event, so if you know of anyone who would be willing to "sing for their supper" and sales of CDs and a tip jar, please have them contact me right away. We have spots for five musicians. warmly, Jessica, Christine and Kirsten PS if you would prefer to pay by check, please register for the event online and then send a check made out to Jessica Waters for the appropriate amount to Jessica Waters P.O. Box 609 Conway, MA 01341 right away.

The Thirteenth Tale, Diane Setterfield
Sometimes, when you open the door to thepast, what you confront is your destiny. Reclusive author Vida Winter, famous for her collection of twelve enchanting stories, has spent the past six decades penning a series of alternate lives for herself. Now old and ailing, she is ready to reveal the truth about her extraordinary existence and the violent and tragic past she has kept secret for so long. Calling on Margaret Lea, a young biographer troubled by her own painful history, Vida disinters the life she meant to bury for good. Margaret is mesmerized by the author's tale of gothic strangeness -- featuring the beautiful and willful Isabelle, the feral twins Adeline and Emmeline, a ghost, a governess, a topiary garden and a devastating fire. Together, Margaret and Vida confront the ghosts that have haunted them while becoming, finally, transformed by the truth themselves.

First produced by NCT in 1999, this production remains one of our more talked-about comic hits. No two performances will be alike in this improvisational roller coaster of Shakespearean proportions. Romeo and Juliet, "The Scottish Play," and Hamlet have never been laugh-out-loud funny before now; even Titus Andronicus may find a way to tickle your funny bone. Join original cast members Sam Rush, Phil Kilbourne, and Brian Joseph Smith as they team up with director Tom McCabe on the stage of Theatre 14 to see if they have what it takes to tackle all thirty-six of the Bard's plays in under two hours!

Horizons: a Mixed Media Show by Ben Westbrock
Ben feels he is exploring the edges of his life in a variety of media at present. He has done many ceramic pieces, both wall reliefs and vase-like forms. He continues to explore line and color in a series of drawings and paintings which move beyond the limits of an edge. Ben wants to feel that he is not in control of what he is doing so that the results of his work move beyond the horizons that he can see. The pieces in this show are about this process.

Afro-Cuban Folkloric Dance Class
If you are enchanted by Afro-Cuban rhythms and dances then you will enjoy our ongoing classes in Afro-Cuban Folkloric Dance. Join us as we learn a variety of Orisha dances from the Santería/Yoruba/Lucumí tradition; Bantú dance from the Palo complex; and social dances such as Rumba and Comparsa.

Each class includes a warm-up; instruction in basic movements; creation of choreographies out of the basic steps; and discussion of the historical and cultural roots of the various Afro-Cuban dances. The highlight of each week's class is the traditional dance circle where each dancer takes a turn to put what he or she has learned into practice by dancing before the drums.

These high energy classes are accompanied by a battery of live drummers from Grupo Folklórico Palo Santo playing authentic Afro-Cuban instruments and rhythms; and singing traditional Afro-Cuban songs.

These ongoing classes are open to dancers of all different ability and experience levels. No previous formal dance training is necessary. Newcomers are always welcome.
